EVERY DAY WE CELEBRATE THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN

On November 20, 1959, the United Nations Organization approved a text that included, in the form of a declaration, the Rights of the Child. It was not binding, but it was a principle, the first step in a process of intense negotiations between governments around the world, social and religious leaders, representatives of many organizations and associations, NGOs, etc., which expanded this document to convert it into the Convention on the Rights of the Child, on November 20, 1989, whose compliance is mandatory for all signatory countries.

Every day of the year is, in our understanding, the day of boys and girls because it is our obligation to ensure their integral development, training, education and growth, respecting their rights and ensuring that they become the best citizens of the future. .

If we choose a day to visualize this constant, it is because every November 20 we remember that we must not lower our guard and continue to fight for the rights of children. We celebrate the progress made and, from our Alcantara Family Foundation, we add that the true fight in the defense of their well-being is in the day to day, in constantly working to offer them a future of equality.

Society, unfortunately, does not guarantee it. In Barcelona, where we develop our Alcantara Team program, it is not the same in all neighborhoods nor do the boys and girls of the Raval, for example, enjoy the same quality of that key aspect that we call non-formal training or access to extracurricular activities. To the deficiencies are added the risks of a community in which, especially during adolescence, it is easy to fall into the worst habits that cause precariousness, marginalization and life in small ghettos that, although we do not want to see, are there.

What we learn thanks to this initiative, undoubtedly the most valuable lesson of this experience is to make sure that, concentrating our efforts in the local geography, near, where we can act in a small group within the reach of our resources, is where we can succeed and where we can guarantee that that effort translates into a positive, perceptible and transformative impact.

At the Alcantara Family Foundation we are clear that we work to achieve real changes in the lives of children, especially the most vulnerable.

We will continue to do so without deviating from that methodology based on the educational value of sport, soccer in particular, on its ability to reach the hearts of our beneficiaries. Through that passion for the ball we help them gain a better understanding of the small universe that surrounds them. It is about integrating them into the field of reflection and thought while they simply play soccer, a game in which decisions must be continually made in favor of the group, decisions that affect the rest of the team and that are important. It is the same as in life. Soccer teaches us to be better. We like to see that in our foundation, in collaboration with the Associació Esportiva Ciutat Vella, we celebrate Universal Children’s Day every day.
